Upstate New York is full of breathtaking spots perfect for a romantic getaway. Whether you love cozy cabins, scenic lake views, or luxurious resorts, central and upstate New York has something for every couple for a honeymoon. Here are the top honeymoon destinations in the region to consider for your post-wedding escape.
The Adirondacks
The Adirondack Mountains offer a mix of adventure and relaxation. Stay in a charming lakeside cabin on Lake Placid, explore the breathtaking High Falls Gorge, or take a romantic sunset cruise on Saranac Lake. My personal favorite is Old Forge on Fourth Lake. It is the most adorable town with shops and restaurants, and so many beautiful cabins or camps to stay in. If you’re there in the summer, make sure you stop in at The Donut Shop in Eagle Bay! The crisp mountain air and stunning scenery make this a dream upstate New York honeymoon destination.
Finger Lakes Wine Country
For couples who love wine and beautiful landscapes, the Finger Lakes region is a must-visit. Book a stay at a lakefront inn, tour award-winning wineries along Seneca or Cayuga Lake (Three Brothers Winery and Wagner Vineyards are must-visits), and unwind at a luxury spa. The rolling vineyards and picturesque waterfalls create the perfect setting for romance.
*INSIDER TIP* Visit Muranda Cheese in Waterloo for delicious cheeses and live music throughout the summer and fall (pictured below). My personal favorite cheese is Red Buddy and Cranky Old Lady.
Skaneateles Lake
This charming lakeside village is a hidden gem in Central New York. Skaneateles Lake boasts crystal-clear waters, boutique shops, and intimate restaurants. Enjoy a stay at the historic Mirbeau Inn & Spa, take a scenic boat ride, visit Doug’s Ice Cream for a yummy treat, or simply stroll through the quaint town hand in hand.
Cooperstown
While known for baseball, Cooperstown is also a surprisingly romantic getaway. Couples can stay at the Otesaga Resort Hotel, take a scenic walk around Otsego Lake, or enjoy beer tasting at Brewery Ommegang. My personal favorite for dinner and drinks is Mel’s at 22. The town’s historic charm and peaceful surroundings make it an ideal honeymoon spot.
Thousand Islands
Nestled along the St. Lawrence River, the Thousand Islands region is a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Explore Boldt Castle, take a private boat tour, or stay in a secluded waterfront cottage. The breathtaking river views make for an unforgettable upstate New York honeymoon.
Lake George
Nicknamed the “Queen of American Lakes,” Lake George is a romantic escape with endless activities. Couples can enjoy hot air balloon rides, lakeside dining, and private cabins with panoramic views. Whether you want adventure or relaxation, Lake George delivers the perfect honeymoon experience.
Hudson Valley
The Hudson Valley is a dreamy mix of scenic beauty, historic mansions, and farm-to-table dining. Visit the Storm King Art Center, stay at a charming bed & breakfast, or take a wine tour through the rolling countryside. It’s an elegant and peaceful destination for newlyweds.
Catskill Mountains
The Catskills offer a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern luxury. Couples can hike scenic trails, stay in cozy mountain lodges, or unwind at an upscale wellness retreat. With breathtaking waterfalls, charming small towns, and world-class dining, the Catskills provide an idyllic setting for romance. This is where my husband and I went on our honeymoon, before we also headed to the Poconos!
*INSIDER TIP* I highly recommend a stay at Bear Spring Cabin in Walton (pictured below). It’s a beautifully renovated cabin with incredible views, perfect for a luxurious, romantic getaway to the wilderness.
From the Finger Lakes to the Thousand Islands, Upstate New York offers honeymoon destinations that suit every couple’s style. Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or a little of both, these romantic getaways ensure a magical start to your marriage.
